WHO I WORK WITH
If you feel ready to work on yourself but are not quite sure where or how to begin that process, then you’re right where you’re supposed to be :) I have experience supporting people with safely exploring their identities (cultural, sexual, racial, gender, etc.), processing trauma and grief, making sense of family patterns and cultural influences, struggling with anxiety or depression, or simply just wanting to become better versions of themselves. I am passionate about supporting young adults and adults who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or Asian American/Pacific Islander, with a deep understanding of how shared identities can hugely impact your ability to feel better understood. Whether it’s your first time or your fifteenth time trying therapy, I’m confident in my ability to genuinely connect with you and provide you with the tools, space, and support to help get you where you want to be.
MY APPROACH
The most important thing to me is that you feel comfortable and safe to share your story with me. I promise to consistently create and hold the space for you to gain skills, knowledge, and support in order to connect better with your inner strengths and reach your goals. My style is warm, collaborative, approachable, and honest. To me, there’s no such thing as “one size fits all” when it comes to providing therapy effectively. My approach is uniquely catered to each individual depending on what your goals and personalities are. I value cultural awareness and respect that you know yourself better than anyone else. I draw from multiple modalities in-session including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy.
MY BACKGROUND
Even though I grew up in a city as diverse as San Francisco, I rarely saw myself reflected within this field. I spent the majority of my life thinking that therapy was for “messed up people” because of social stigma, the lack of discussion regarding mental health within my cultures and our society, and just a general lack of awareness and understanding. It wasn’t until I faced my own bumps in the road and began working with a therapist who shared identities with me that I recognized the power of therapy and representation within mental health. I am passionate about reducing the stigma of seeking help and increasing access to mental health resources within diverse communities. The consistent theme throughout my life has been helping others and the ways I’ve been able to do that so far include being a high school teacher, peer counselor for the LGBTQ+ community, residential counselor for youth experiencing homelessness, and now as a therapist specializing in working with Queer, AAPI, and other POC communities.
WHY I LOVE THIS WORK
Healing is sacred and it’s a privilege for me to do this work in supporting and witnessing my community’s growth. I love how no single day on the job looks the same as another and that I get to constantly learn alongside you while supporting you. For all the people I’ve worked with in the past who’ve told me “I never thought therapy could be for me until I saw someone that looked like you doing it,” they’re the reason why I love this work.
A BIT MORE ABOUT ME...
I recently moved back to my hometown of San Francisco after being away for the past ten years exploring Los Angeles, Seattle, and most recently Tokyo, Japan! My love language is food and anything to do with it. If not for this work, my other dream is to open a Japanese/Filipino fusion cafe one day (stay tuned!) I love spending as much time in nature as I possibly can, including hiking, biking, backpacking, camping, or just soaking in the views that mother nature has to offer. Lastly, just in case you were wondering, I’m a Capricorn :)
