WHO I WORK WITH
I work with individuals who are frustrated with the Western medical model, and feel like they are not living their fullest and healthiest life. Most of my clients know they are not thriving and want a chance to address diet, lifestyle and behavior before being put on medication. There is a lack of education and lots of conflicting messages about how they can meet their health goals – not to mention, most doctors do not have the time to educate or further address these concerns during appointments.
Many of my clients are dealing with a combination of hormone imbalances, autoimmune conditions, gastrointestinal struggles, and metabolic concerns that can feel overwhelming. I also work with women who are ready to take control of their health, especially during times of hormonal shifts such as fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and peri-menopause. My approach is rooted in science-based nutrition strategies to address the root causes of these issues, not just the symptoms. I take pride in staying up-to-date with the latest research, using evidence-driven methods to create a personalized plan that works for your unique body and lifestyle.
If you're tired of the trial-and-error approach and want to work with someone who listens, understands, and empowers you to make sustainable changes, I’m here to help. Together, we’ll create a path to better health, balance, and vitality—the goal is to see you thrive!
MY APPROACH
Food philosophies have become far too complicated, making it challenging to navigate everyday food decisions. We are constantly bombarded with conflicting messages, food myths, deceiving marketing and wellness gimmicks. My goal is to dispel these myths and provide you with the latest evidence-based tools, so you can start making decisions that meet your actual needs. For more information see my blog about my philosophy on calorie restriction, diets and the scale.
Client-centered, inclusive care is at the basis of everything I do. In learning your story, I include you in the discovery process and tailor recommendations to address your unique needs. I look upstream to consider the complex web of interactions in your history, physiology, lifestyle, genetic makeup, your internal (mind, body, spirit) connection, and external environment (both physical and social factors).
There are many things we can address in our work together, and while food is important it isn’t the sole focus of my work. Ultimately, we are working to create long-lasting behavior change, by inviting curiosity and a healthy dose of self-compassion. My practices are grounded in medical nutrition therapy, a non-diet approach, mindfulness, Health At Every Size (HAES®), and Intuitive Eating principles.
MY BACKGROUND
I have always had a passion for health and wellness, and have ten years of experience in the natural products and supplement industry. After going through some health challenges of my own, I set out for more answers and found myself wanting to learn more. I have a Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition and I am a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), the gold-standard certification for advanced personalized nutrition therapy. I have a strong background in functional and integrative nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and herbalism. I have extensive training in evaluating functional labs, the physiology of digestion and its connection to our nervous system, nutrient deficiencies associated with mental health conditions, cardio-metabolic concerns, and how the microbiome can play a role in the progression of these disorders.
WHY I LOVE THIS WORK
I love helping people (like you!) discover that life is not about perfection. It’s hard to be fully present when you are constantly worrying about food, or your mental and physical health. Humans have not evolved to live in this modern world – we spend most of our time indoors, in artificial light, looking at screens, eating processed foods, sitting for most of the day. I know it isn’t possible to change the world or , but let me help you make small changes that can generate massive returns on your mental and physical health.
A BIT MORE ABOUT ME...
When I am not supporting people on their journey to better health, I spend my time exploring the outdoors with my husband and son – we love to travel, ride bikes, hike and are eager to explore as much of this beautiful world we live in as possible. Food and cooking are a love language for me, because coming together at a table to enjoy a meal creates an intimate connection to those you share it with. I am also a science nerd and love to dig into scientific literature, or spend hours learning from other practitioners in the field. From withstanding challenges to recovering from setbacks, the human body proves time and again that its capacity for renewal is nothing short of extraordinary.
WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY
“After years of struggling with GI issues, with little guidance from my doctors, Erica was able to finally help me get some answers about my health. She is a genuine healer who actually worked with me to find answers instead of simply giving me prescriptions without any info on what was causing my symptoms. I was given options based on clear well relayed knowledge that helped to guide me to effective solutions that were comfortable for me and my lifestyle. Working with Erica has been a breath of fresh air and has empowered me to continue my journey with a clear path toward health.”— IJ
